The "why" here is a very abstract notion and is therefore very hard to articulate.   Ever gaze at shadows long enough to make out 'features with eyes'? Ever see creatures found in "Where the Wild Things Are" in your garden? Ahem....Neither have I really.

But this painting has been nagging at me for some time now. With the prodding of a good friend (thanks Brad) I made a painting just for myself. What if darkness could bend light? What if we are never aware of negative influences because we are so enraptured by flowers and fountains. The Evil could even taunt us in such moments, lying about its' Success'. It's important I think to keep close watch on reality, and as exhausting as it can be to never let our guard down.

This is literally my first painting since 2006. I took my very first painting and washed it over in white, and the end result is what you see here : "Lighted Fools". It is based on Shakespeare's "...out brief candle! Life's but a walking shadow, a poor player that struts and frets his hour on the stage and then is heard no more: it is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury signifying nothing.

Tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow...
For now we have a brief candle...
And we can Light The Fools.
